I have a new theory. Pierre Poilievre is punking all of us. It's performance art. I mean...it can't be real. Can it?
The National Post points out that he's waltzing around the country handing out cheques, while his website suggests Canada is not about "freebies". Which is an excellent time to bring up the question - what is this child subsidy increase other than wealth redistribution? Why are they so happy and bragging about something that they claim to actively despise? How is taking taxpayer money from everybody and giving it to a select group of people good this time around, but awful every other time?
Not only that, but he showed up at a press conference wearing a Conservative logoed Golf shirt. In what world is that "non partisan"? Not to mention the hours of government time and resources we've pumped into this insane display by the Cons.
This article has an interesting take on things. But...I mean...of course the benefits are largely going to the people that voted in the Conservatives in the ridings that voted for them. That's the whole point.
Interest rates are dropping (even some Real Estate orgs think this is a bad idea). The dollar is in the tank. And our surplus has turned into a deficit? Steady hand! Steady hand!
Wai Young deserves to not be in a position of authority. Re-writing the history of the Air India bombing is an insult to any family member of the victims. Claiming that Jesus would support your Big Brother bill is just funny. Lucky for us, her poll numbers are on the ropes.
Rona Ambrose is pumping more money into Reefer Madness ads. Another $1.5 Million. Let them eat advertisements!
I thought and East pipeline was Mulcair's fucking idea? Now he's against it (maybe)? Trudeau decides to sit on the fence for a bit as well. Which is probably a good thing, seeing as there's a massive pipeline spill in Alberta right now. But I thought these things were supposed to be safe?
Some companies have admitted to making illegal donations to Peter Penashue. Of course, they'll receive no punishment.
Macleans digs into Insite and determines that it really is saving lives. Psssh. Science.
Ha ha ha ha. Women don't get higher paying jobs? Well, they're just choosing the wrong jobs! They just all need to stopy being such low paid teachers, social workers, etc. and need to step up to become Engineers and CEO's. Thanks for the advice, Conservative MP Joan Crockatt.
Joyce Murray will probably come out okay from her "Sobriety" gaffe. Maybe all it takes is admitting some kind of responsibility and telling the truth about what happened?
Facebook did an analysis and concluded that Conservatives are terrible people. Christian Rock? Two and a Half Men? Fast and the Furious? Egads.
Speaking of ha ha ha ha. A Conservative MP sent out a press release in draft form, highlighting how it's all just paint by numbers. I mean, of course it is. But funny.
The NDP released a new series of attack ads, highlighting law breaking Conservative politicians. It's generated an interesting discussion. What is an attack? Is it still an attack if it is true? What is a personal attack? The National Post story isn't very even-handed in their analysis.
I feel like this has come up quite a few times. The Cons have gerrymandered easy ridings and the incumbents are scrambling to get the nomination in what they view will be easier battles. But they keep losing!

Alberta - Week 210 - April 21-May 4
Article about political trolls brings out reams of political trolls.
You know who else is worried about Canada's ability to respond to oil spills? The US Government. But what do those guys know? The Tyee has a nice follow up story on how we're not going to get answers on the Vancouver oil spill.
This seems crazy...but Alberta might be finally realizing that they are getting screwed on oil royalties. It might not be enough to dangle a few high paying jobs to gain the privilege of extracting all that oil owned by the people. This article also points out that BC should do some soul searching on timber revenue as well.
Digging further...this article speculates that a huge mistake has been made and the Alberta government refuses to admit it. But why else would oil revenues have gone down after the promise was made to raise them?
It seems like the Harper government is concerned about what is happening in Alberta as well. Rona Ambrose speaks out against the "risky experiment " of voting for a party they don't agree with. Surprisingly, Alberta businessmen don't like it either. Man. I don't know much about Alberta, but I know they're not fans of being told what to do.
The Harper Government claims that the USA will freak out if we release Omar Khadr on bail. It's actually their main argument. The US Government suggests they'd actually be okay with it.
Hey. It worked for George Bush. Stephen Harper made a surprise visit to Iraq.
I think it would be a stretch to claim that income splitting was a Conservative conspiracy to put $2000 back into their own pockets every year, but it is interesting to see how many more Conservative MP's benefit compared to the opposition parties.
Beautiful. The Conservatives "typical" family that they trot out to show how awesome their budget is has an income that puts them in the top 15% of families. As well, since last year, their income distribution has changed dramatically, allowing them to take advantage of all of those great income splitting changes.
The Auditor General does not think the Government is doing a very good job of tracking the impact of tax credits.
This article speculates that people are reaching the breaking point with government advertisements. It doesn't provide any proof or insight though. And more!
A Liberal ad targeting Conservative government ad spending. Put this on the TV!
The Canadian soldiers who were victims of friendly fire by Kurdish troops have been vindicated as not responsible.
Michael Geist digs into the source of the unexpected copyright extension: lots and lots of meetings between lobbyists and the government...that we're not allowed to hear the details of. Would be interesting to correlate this access with donations.
The Sierra Club is being investigated by Revenue Canada.
The Military is chastised for their caveman-like, institutionalized sexual harassment.
Dean Del Mastro proves, once again, that he's a guy that just doesn't get it. Ya...he broke the law...but it didn't change anything so why is everybody so mad?
The Cons won't tell us what Mike Duffy talked to Enbridge about.

Budget Details - Week 209 - April 20-27
I kind of love Joe Oliver. He's just such an idiot, I think it's going to work out well for Canada in the next election. Funding TFSA's will be a problem for Stephen Harper's granddaughter to solve. Bloody hell. Why is this not an attack ad yet? Please tell me the NDP and Libs are both working this in to their attack ad strategy.
Oh the budget. More and more details emerge on how the Cons cooked the numbers for their magical surplus. GM share sales. Robbing from EI. A serious cut to the contingency. Even with all their slashing, it was still not enough. Can't wait until they vilify the unemployed for taking advantage of the now underfunded EI system.
Hidden in the budget - Copyright terms for sound recordings have been extended from 50 years to 70 years. Because struggling artists are going to benefit from that extra 20 years of copyright that most likely will kick in after they're dead. Big content lobbyists are happy though...as no more works will be "lost" to the public domain where everybody can use them.
Vice points out all the windfalls our spies and police are receiving with the new budget.
IMF policy suggests the government should be spending more to create jobs.
Rona Ambrose - Chief Reefer Madness cheerleader. Marijuana is not a medicine and how dare you Vancouver! Love it how she totally embraces the expertise of Health Canada when it suits her purposes. And think of the childredn!
The Mike Duffy trial drags on. Was Mike Duffy the facilitator for contact between Enbridge and the Prime Minister? Or was it all Mike Duffy working on his own accord?
We always said we would act on climate change when the US did, and follow their policies. Until they acted on climate change. Now we're not going to follow their policies.
Omar Khadr will receive a bail hearing. Cons are, of course, fighting it. Why are they so scared of this kid?
More paid Conservative ads in the form of CRA letters?
Details on the ridiculous land sale by the BC Liberals. $43 million under market value.
The details of the BC Lions rental contract with PAVCO have finally been released. So, the Lions pay a pittance in rent. PAVCO experiences a huge loss (which taxpayers pay for). And the Lions receive a profit. Weird how that works.
Some interesting history on Iraq and the rise of ISIS. This guy feels a bit too Zero Dark Thirty, but whatever.
Oh. Shit. This is what a good blog looks like! Graphics! Analysis! Fuck this guy.

More ads! - Week 205 - March 30 - April 6
Fuck off! The Cons are planning an ad blitz for their delayed budget. This is fucking shameful. Like your deadbeat neighbour hiring a skywriter to announce that he finally mowed his lawn - but he's running for block president and used block party funds to pay for the skywriter.
This TFW thing is getting nasty. We're going to start throwing any out that are here for too long.
The cost of the ISIS mission is classified, because the terrorists will be able to know exactly what we're up to if they find out our budget. So is Kenney going to be on trial for treason? $528 Million is a lot of war to bring.
Every time a total Conservative shithead quits the party, I feel a bit sad. The anti-Evolution MP has quit...so that he can talk more about how much he hates evolution?
More progress on Climate Change. From the US and Mexico. As Canada falls further behind.
This is amazing. People asked for help from the government due to expensive and hard to find daycare for young children...Conservatives respond with tax benefit for people with kids up to the age of 17...for, you know...daycare or something.
Michael Geist outlines the lengths the Government went to in order to call witnesses in support of Bill C-51. All sorts of crazed, right wing Americans.
This link speculates that the National Firearms Association agreed to not oppose Harper on C-51 if he moved forward on C-42. And the members are kind of confused.
Paul Martin doesn't think the Conservatives have done a very good job with the economy for the last 10 years. Which must be like selling your house and watching the crackheads that bought it slowly destroy it.
The Senate expenses scandal should not be about not eating a free lunch...Complaining that a Senator bought lunch before a flight feels like it misses the point. Up to 40 Senators have questionable expenses.
Another story points out the incongruity of Duffy being charged while Wright isn't.
A victory for Civil Liberties? Cops blatantly trample on protesters rights and several years later, the courts officially recognize that this is wrong but not even a slap on the wrist is handed out? Okay.
This feels like reverse trolling - An article specifically written to bring out the worst in commenters. "Restaurant dress codes open to sexual discrimination complaints"
John Baird has another good week, potentially making more bank on the CP board of directors. Hey, this will at least give West Side Vancouverites a target for their scorn.
Supposedly the CIA tried to tell Canada that Maher Arar wasn't guilty.
The Canadian Government won't issue Mohamed Fahmy a new passport.
Roma are treated horribly in Eastern Europe. And then face discrimination when they arrive in Canada as refugees.
The BC Terror Trial is becoming a bit of a shitshow as details are released. 240 police officers were involved. The accused are delusional, most likely mentally ill, drug addicts, hardly capable of paying the rent, let alone planning a terror plot. It's just...fuck.

Used it all up - Week 141 - Jan 6-13
Stephen Harper continues his advertising extravaganza. $22 Million to sell the oil sands to the world. Why wouldn't the industry (that makes billions) spend their own money to do this?
There was a Fifth Estate on the Harper war on science. Mainstream media is catching on. Check out the insane list of scientific programs cut by Harper. And on and on it goes.
Can you imagine spending $1.7 Billion on something, and having nothing to show for it? Stephen Harper proves yet again that his government is absolutely terrible at military procurement. Replacement of the Sea King helicopters is a shit show.
Norway's oil riches have grown to serious levels. It's actually hard to wrap your head around.
CSIS/CSEC admits that Canadian citizens have been caught in the crossfire.
Things don't seem to be going much better for Mac Harb.
The Conservative MP for Fort Mac has resigned. Wonder what sort of gravy train he'll step in to?
The Liberals are wondering why Peter McKay hasn't stepped in to, you know, enforce laws, with the Senate scandal.
